From October 2012 to March 2013, the series aired on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block. The storyline centers on the young woman Akane Tsunemori and is set in the dystopia of Japan under the rule of the Sibyl System. She is introduced as a trainee Inspector working in Division One of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Public Safety Bureau, where she is tasked with investigating crimes involving enforcers who are latent offenders.
In the dystopian Japan of Psycho-Pass, the Sibyl System—a potent biomechatronic computer network that continuously scans the brains and minds of Japanese citizens—rules as the nation’s government. The evaluation that results is known as a Psycho-Pass, and it includes a color-coded Hue that alerts law enforcement to other data as well as the improvement or deterioration (clouding) of said Psycho-Pass, as well as a quantitative Crime Coefficient index that reveals the citizen’s potential for criminality. The field officers of the Crime Investigation Department of the Ministry of Welfare’s Public Safety Bureau pursue, capture, and either arrest or kill a targeted person when their Crime Coefficient index rises above the acceptable cutoff point (100).
