Takina Inoue is a member of “Lycoris,” an undercover organization with roots in a fictitious pre-Meiji group called “Higanbana” that kills criminals and terrorists in Tokyo while posing as high school students to keep peace in Japan. Lycoris is a government-sponsored all-female task force of assassins and spies made up of orphans.
To save a colleague who had been taken hostage, she begins firing indiscriminately at the adversaries during an operation to stop a large-scale exchange of weaponry, endangering the safety of other Lycoris in the process. As a result of her disregarding directions, the organization fired her.
She was subsequently reassigned to work on a division of the organization known as “LycoReco,” which hides its operations as a café, with elite Lycoris agent Chisato Nishikigi, who is infamous for her role in the destruction of the ancient radio tower. As terrorists led by Majima attempt to undermine the peace that the Lycoris is securing, Takina works with Chisato to manage the café in an effort to be rehired by the agency.
In September 2022, Yasunori Bizen’s manga adaptation started serializing in Media Factory’s manga publication Monthly Comic Flapper, and the same month, Asaura’s Lycoris Recoil: Ordinary Days light novel was released under ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Bunko. In January 2023, a theatrical production of the series was presented.
